Mass Registration in Iqaluit will be held on September 11 at 11 AM at the AWG Complex.
The Toonik Tyme committee is pleased to announce that the 2011 Toonik Tyme Festival is scheduled to take place April 14-20, 2011 in Iqaluit, Nunavut.
Events will range from displays of intricate igloo building to fast paced snowmobile races. There will be fresh tasty bannock at the Tea and Bannock Contest and less appetizing dishes served during the Toonik Tyme Fear Factor.
Enjoy the outdoors and celebrate the return of spring during Toonik Tyme April 14-20, 2011.

Toonik Tyme has been taking place every spring since 1965. The longevity of the festival is a testament to the volunteers and sponsors who make Toonik Tyme possible year after year.
This year there was once again several members and visitors in our community who stepped up and contributed to the 2010 Toonik Tyme festival.
The Toonik Tyme committee will be hosting an appreciation night for those of you that helped make the 2010 Toonik Tyme a success.
Come and enjoy food and prizes at the B.P.O. Elks Lodge from 5:00pm to 7:30pm on Sunday May 2nd.

Itee Temela was in Kimmirut earlier on the day of the contest said she decided on a whim to come to Iqaluit for Toonik Tyme but shortly before boarding the twin-otter she quickly made a batch of bannock for her family.
If you are in a hurry and need some tea and bannock pronto call Itee Temela. Itee was the first of six contestants to prepare twelve pieces of her delicious bannock and boil a pot of tea taking first place.
We at Toonik Tyme would like to congratulate all the winners of the 2010 Traditional sewing skills competition, and would like to thank all of our participants for submitting your beautiful work. All the time and patience put into your sewing was proudly shown at our showcase at our opening ceremony on April 7th at the lobby our the Iqaluit Curling Rink.

Each woman from the above listed won a seal skin pelt, donated by the Nunavut Arctic College Fur Program.
Each of the ladies participating in the sewing skills competition had their names submitted to a draw to win a sewing machine, donated by the Toonik Tyme committee as well an airline ticket, donated by Canadian North.

2010 Honourary Toonik John Maurice
John Maurice has lived in many places, but for the last 32 years he has made the Arctic home living in Aklavik, Igloolik and Iqaluit.
He has three University degrees: a bachelor of Education from the University of Washington, a Master of Arts from the University of Manitoba and a Bachelor of Education from Acadia University. He has also studied at the Universities of London and Victoria. He holds the Diploma of Ministry from Saint Francis Xavier University.
After a long career as a teacher in Nunavut, he retired in 2008. He is presently the Returning Officer for Elections Canada for Nunavut.
For many years, he has been involved with the sport of speed skating and is presently Head Coach and President of the Nunavut Speed Skating Association. He has attended many Arctic Winter Games, Canada Winter Games and other national and international competitions as the representative of Speed Skating Nunavut.
He is married to Rhoda Ungalaq and has four children and two grand-daughters. He is good father to his children. Rhoda and John have a passion for going out to their cabin on the land and so they have a busy schedule of commuting by either boat or snowmobile, and even sometimes on foot to their cabin. John loves music of all sorts and is actively involved in the community as a volunteer, one of the two original volunteers at the Kamatsiaqtut Nunavut Help Line still serving as a volunteer, as a member of several subcommittees for the City of Iqaluit and also with the Iqaluit Roman Catholic Community.
He loves to travel and build houses and cabins, recently has made trips to Chile and Italy and plans many more trips abroad in the future.
Congratulations to the winner of the ice sculpture competition which took place on Thursday April 8th, at the Nakasuk Parking lot. We had a total of 7 participants, and had 3 winners. Thank you to all who participated, and we hope to see you again next year!
